Adjustable Theatrical Revolve

 

Several shows ago (Billy), The ESNA Players needed a revolve, but the scarcity of theatrical revolves that suited an amateur budget combined with the additional costs of transporting them caused the society to reconsider the options, and with a few ideas from the crew, we approached a local steel fabricators and had our own revolve made. The base has a central steel hub with bearing and adjustable radial arms making it capable of being 12'6", 14'6", 16', 16'6" in diameter (it was meant to be 12', 14', 16' but thats another story) with a wooden 'floor' being attached to the top of it. It is currently purely mechanical in operation requiring just a couple of strong crew to start/stop movement when fully laden (set and cast) but is quite free-running having hard rubber wheels on the ends of the radials. - We first used it at 16', had quite a lot of permanent set on it including rostra / flattage, and at one stage about a dozen members of the cast (as well as crew). Used again in our more recent production of Spend Spend Spend we cut a 4 metre diameter top, that is in 12 "cheese" shaped pieces, the following picture was taken half way through it's assembly:-

 

We charge £200 per week hire for Production weeks, and £100 per week for rehearsal weeks, we currently have available a 16 foot diameter 25mm MDF top, and a 13 foot diameter 18mm plywood top.
