Set in the fictional prim Rhode Island town
of Eastwick, the musical tells the story of three bored and unsatisfied women,
Alexandra, Jane and Sukie, and their dream of the perfect man. As the magic starts,
their dreams turn to reality as the mysterious Darryl van Horne moves into
town, seducing each in turn as he teaches them to overcome their inhibitions and
realise their dreams. Darryl turns out to be a right little devil, causing havoc and
mayhem in his hedonistic desire to control the women to his own
ends.
The Witches of Eastwick is a hugely
entertaining dark comedy - full of fun, magic, dance and wonderful music. Based
on the book by John Updyke and the hugely successful film, starring Jack Nicholson as
Darryl and Cher, Susan Sarandon and Michelle Pfieffer as the three witches, the Witches of
Eastwick was finally made into a hit musical with score and lyrics by Dana .P. Rowe and
John Dempsey. Its West-End debut in 2000 starred the sauve Ian McShane
as Darryl. It's american debut, only just pips Loughborough to the post by
4 months, as it starts its run at the Signature Theatre in Washington during the summer of
2007. The Washington Post wrote that the Witches of Eastwick "spells
wicked fun". We know Loughborough audiences will love this
production!
